Bo Horvat's Olympic hopes don't appear to be at risk after an untimely injury.
The New York Islanders centre is set to miss at least the next week after suffering an injury against the Utah Mammoth on Thursday, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported Friday.
According to Friedman, the news is hopeful for Horvat and he'll be re-evaluated in a week. He has apparently dodged a worst-case scenario and his status for the Canadian Olympic team shouldn't be affected.
Islanders teammate Mathew Barzal told reporters on Friday after practice that Horvat "seems all right. He'll be fine, we'll have him back soon."
Horvat exited in the third period of the loss to the Mammoth after a collision with Utah's Sean Durzi in the neutral zone. Horvat was hunched over on the bench in pain after the hit and then limped to the locker room. He did not return to the game.
Head coach Patrick Roy had no update on Horvat after the game, but told reporters the centre would see a doctor on Friday.
Horvat was one of four forwards not on Canada's 4 Nations Face-Off squad to crack the 25-player Olympic roster.
The 30-year-old native of London, Ont., has 21 goals and 12 assists in 36 games this season.
A two-time NHL all-star, Horvat has represented Canada twice at the world championship and played for the country at the world junior championship in 2014.
